Hi, my name is Miranda Ryan and I’m a Licensed Massage Therapist in Hallowell, Maine.

I specialize in providing a safe and natural solution to your back pain, neck pain, headaches, sports injuries, car accident injuries and work-related aches, pains, and stress – in order to improve your health and lifestyle, without having to rely on prescriptions, injections, or surgery to relieve your pain! I will look at all aspects of what is currently causing you discomfort in great detail and tailor a massage specifically to focus on YOUR body’s needs.

I have training in several different massage techniques and have blended them all together to create a very unique style of massage. My style has been influenced by myofacial release, trigger point therapy, deep tissue massage, Swedish massage, Thai bodywork and sports therapy massage.

The benefit of using many different styles is that I can customize each massage specifically to your body type and needs, each time you visit! No massage is ever exactly the same – no cookie cutter massages here!

I am a certified yoga instructor as well as a Reiki energy work practitioner so I will often incorporate these therapies into your treatment sessions as well for no additional cost!

The body wants to be in balance but there are many factors in our lives that can knock us off balance. Things like emotional stress, less-than-ideal diet, working at a desk, or overuse of muscles can lead to discomfort in the body that you just can’t seem to shake.

Most likely it is a combination of many factors that have lead to a feeling of unbalance and therefore I use a comprehensive and holistic approach to help your body regain homeostasis. It likely took several months or even years for your pain to develop to the point where it got your attention, therefore there will likely need to be several sessions of therapy to get your body back to a state of wellness.

What is included in each session?

Reiki Energy Healing

Reiki focuses on energy, specifically unblocking our energy, so that we can heal both physically and emotionally. Rei means “universal”, and “Ki” means life energy. When our life-force energy (Ki) is low or blocked in a particular area because of trauma, stress, or disfunction we are more vulnerable to illness and can experience anxiety or depression. Complimentary Hot Stones

Hot stones are used to help “melt” away those stubborn knots in our muscles. I use them as a massage tool to add heat and gentle pressure to any areas that need some extra help returning to a relaxed state. They make my job easier and they feel great too, it’s a win-win!



Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts that can be used topically and for aroma. I use a combination of several, high-grade essential oils during massages to help calm the nervous system, improve circulation and decrease inflammation. I use a locally made massage oil with premium, organic ingredients that are specially crafted to improve skin health and promote overall wellness.
*Please note that anyone with a scent sensitivity can opt-out of essential oils during their session. Unscented cream is also available*

Why Massage?

The body is in a constant dance of balancing between the need for stability and desire for mobility.

We all have an expectation that the parts of the body that are supposed to stay mobile will continue to move easily, and vice versa. However, in order for the body to remain both stable and mobile, there must be compromise.

While most of the time the body adjusts for compromise without our faintest attention, over time, tissue pain, muscle knots, spasms, trigger points, and tension patterns can develop as a result of repetitive compromising and compensation.

Massage therapy is essentially the perfect tool to address these problematic compensation patterns.

During a massage the body and mind are relaxed, the nervous system slows down, and feel good endorphins are released. Once the physical body has relaxed, I am then able to feel for the structural imbalances that form the pain symptoms you’re experiencing. Occasionally the compensatory patterns are so deeply ingrained within the body that it requires a systematic “peeling back” of the layers of compensation in order to find the root issue.

For example, pain between the shoulder blades is typically not because of a “knot” you can never quite locate, but instead due to a forward rounding of the shoulders, which is actually caused by tightness in the pectoralis muscles (chest).

You see, pain in the body is rarely ever an isolated occurrence, even a chronic injury will create referral pain in far reaching areas of the body if not properly cared for and corrected.

Because massage has the capacity to impact the physical and mental bodies simultaneously, it is a unique opportunity to draw your attention away from the ever-processing mind and down into the physical body.

The mind is an incredible tool, one that we can use to heal the body when used properly.

Many people live entirely in their minds, ignoring their bodies until there is pain that calls, sometimes screams, for attention. Together we can establish a stronger bond between mind and body and harness the power of the mind to heal the body.
